The Gift of Gravity is a thought-provoking workbook created for fun and published just in time for the pandemic.  It is part gratitude journal, part creative outlet: there are no rules! Full of fun facts, quotes and opportunities for self-reflection. It’s been a hit with kids and adults alike, it makes a great way to get your kids (and yourself) off of screens and draw/doodle/write!

Based on my activity book, The Gift of Gravity, I lead a small group on Zoom in the summer of 2020 to work through the Gift of Gravity, which is a collection of quotes, facts, and writing and drawing prompts. It was a way to connect during the pandemic and talk about what was annoying us and what we were grateful for. In the process, we created The Gift of Being Human. The Gift of Being Human is the product of seven students, ages 11 - 13 and is appropriate for anyone at any time (pandemic or otherwise). Enjoy both books!

After tutoring all three levels of the ISEE for the past 15 years, I finally created a book that contains all my best secrets that not only yield results in the way of test scores, but keep kids more engaged in creative ways. There are several books out there, but this one is different. This book not only contains original material, but also challenges the kids to create their own materials and learn in different ways other than simply rote memorization and using somebody else’s strategies. The book itself is a collaboration of many tutors and real students who have gone through the process of preparing and taking the ISEE. This is truly a group collaboration based on years of experience and honest feedback. This book was a labor of love; not a profit-making strategy of a big test prep company. Tests do not determine intelligence; they are a game. This book is designed to improve each student’s skills and strategies on how to best play that game.

The SCAT, or School and College Ability Test, is used as a qualification exam for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). This book contains practice sections as well as two full-length tests for each of the three SCAT levels: students in 2nd or 3rd grade take the Elementary SCAT, students in 4th or 5th grade take the Intermediate SCAT, while students in 6th grade and above take the Advanced SCAT. It contains two sections: Verbal and Quantitative. The Verbal section’s questions focus on verbal comprehension and reasoning. The Quantitative section’s questions focus on mathematical understanding and reasoning. These tests are well above grade level, so I recommend starting in the Elementary section for most students. This book can also be used by students preparing for the ISEE, ERBs, HSPT, as there are overlapping types of questions.

I made this book as a way to track the kind of mistakes you are making on anything academic: standardized tests, or any kind of assessments encountered in school. The concept is simple: the book is a way for you to keep a record of the kind of mistakes you are making and helps you categorize it (was it a computation error, concept error, careless error, vocabulary etc?) and provides space to correct your mistakes and include strategies that might help you score higher. Remember, taking tests is just a game: this is your playbook. (53 pages, 3 errors per page, inspiring quotes!)

This book is a companion to Rad American Women A-Z: Rebels, Trailblazers, and Visionaries who Shaped Our History . . . and Our Future!  Written by Kate Schatz and illustrated by Miriam Klein Stahl. Reading comprehension is a component in the ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, SAT, ACT, GRE and a myriad of other fun and exciting standardized tests.  There are certain types of questions you see over and over and practice actually helps.  It is a great book for people of all ages.  As a test prep coach, I realize many of the passages in tests are, um… boring!  So why not prepare for a test and learn about some rad women with awesome illustrations?

So you need this workbook and the book:  Rad American Women A-Z by Kate Schatz. Pick a rad woman, read the passage, and then answer the corresponding questions in this book.  You can check your answers in the back.
