about
I started tutoring when a family friend asked me to help her daughter in math when I was a junior at Culver City High School. As an English major at UC Berkeley, I continued to tutor math. By the time I started my master’s degree at UCLA, I had been a tutor; a substitute teacher; a classroom teacher (Special Day Class); a high school teaching assistant; a camp counselor and camp director (both at day camps and sleep away camps); a swim instructor; and had taught English abroad (Thailand - yes, my name was a big hit). I received my Master’s in Public Policy with a double focus on Educational Policy and Drug and Crime Policy from UCLA and then received a multi-subject teaching credential while I taught third and fourth grades. I have five years of classroom experience (including neurodivergent students, students with ADHD, students with chromosomal differences, and highly gifted students) and over 30 years of tutoring grades two through graduate school.
The Covid pandemic of 2020 allowed me to shift gears from tutoring to mindset and life coaching. My students who had graduated high school wanted to come back and see me, just to talk. In the stillness of the pandemic, I could hear the call of teens and young adults as they came face to face with themselves, their limitations, the world. I answered this call by engaging in the Wayfair Life Coaching program, which follows a curriculum developed by Martha Beck. It turns out I had been moving in this direction all along: providing deep listening and space for students, young adults, and their parents to ask meaningful questions that only they know the answer to. Life coaching is just a life sherpa: a person to walk next to you and lean on when you need them. For more information on Martha Beck, check out: https://marthabeck.com. I look forward to working with you and as you find your way in this magical mess of a world.
These things tend to end with a little personal conclusion. I live in Los Angeles with my wife, teenage daughter and son, and two pampered rescue dogs. I love cooking, Malcolm Gladwell, traveling and plants. Lots and lots of plants.
